Hong Kong Diary: 2018

Being the spontaneous people that we are - Sarah and I decided on a Tuesday that we’d both fly out of our respective countries (that being Sydney and Singapore) and meet in Hong Kong. We’ve travelled to 12 countries together and have been friends for almost a decade. Sarah is not only one of my oldest friends but also one of my favourite travel companions. She’s got an incredible sense of direction, taste of adventure and great taste in coffee. This was our first time visiting Hong Kong and we were both so excited to immerse ourselves in this this vibrant city.

We checked in on Friday evening - and headed to our check-in at Upper House boutique hotel. Sitting on top of Pacific place in a beautiful shopping complex in Admiralty - we were greeted by our friendly hosts and upgraded upon our arrival.

A special thank you to the team at Upper House for taking such wonderful care of us during our short two night stay. Your hospitality was humbling and I look forward to visiting again shortly!

What distinguishes the Upper House from all other hotels is its spaciousness. The large bathrooms are a dream and every room is equipped with a comprehensive amenity kit with free snacks and drinks (including beer but not wine) and a yoga mat.

Dinner at Café Gray Deluxe

Sarah and I were lucky enough to be invited to Café Gray Deluxe, located on the 49th floor of Upper House. Opened in 2009, the acclaimed restaurant is headed by Chef Gray Kunz, whose signature cuisine favours organic seasonal ingredients, drawing on a lifetime’s experience in European, Asian and American kitchens.

The menu is divided into ‘First and Second Plates’ - so Sarah and I opted for a couple of ‘First and Second Plates’ to share. We ordered half a dozen cold water oysters to start followed by the Stewed tomatoes, thyme and rosemary pasta fiore, creamed spinach and truffle ricotta tortellini.

With a sublime view of the Hong Kong skyline paired with a hearty meal - this restaurant is a must try!
